When to Book Your Wedding Vendors


As you dive into the world of wedding planning, you will begin to meet with an array of vendors, as they will contribute to creating your big day. Caterers, linen rentals, florists, photographers, and more will all play a part in making your wedding day unforgettable.

With so many vendors to book and so little time, you will want to make yourself aware of when you should hire yours.

  • Planner. Hiring a wedding planner in advance is incredibly important! In fact, they should be the very first vendor booked, as they will be able to assist you with book your venue and all of your other vendors. So, consider hiring yours about a year in advance.

  • Venue. Venues will be one of the very first things you book, as they are often booked a year in advance. Give yourself plenty of time and book your venue as soon as possible, so that you can ensure that the base of your big day is set it stone for your celebration.

  • Florist. Flowers are a key part in creating romance on your big day. Your florist should be booked about six months before your wedding. This way, you have time to go over floral options, designs, and overall prepare to have your big day adorned with beautiful blooms.

  • Entertainment. Are you planning to book a band or DJ for your wedding? If so, you should have them booked nine months before your big day. Entertainers are often hired quickly, so you will want to ensure that you book your favorite option.

  • Baker. Responsible for baking your wedding cake, and possibly your desserts, your baker needs plenty of time to get ready to prepare your big day sweet treat! Book them six months before your wedding, so that you can have time to taste flavors, decide on your cake size, and plan a display that will complement your big day.

  • Photographer & Videographer. These two can often be booked together and should be booked eight to nine months before your wedding. If your videographer has to be booked separately, you can stretch your timeline and book them six months in advance. By booking ahead, you can have time to take part in an engagement photo session too, to ensure that they are the right fit for your nuptials.

  • Cuisine. Catering your event is a big task. Be sure to give your caterer plenty of time to prepare for such a large celebration by booking them nine months before the big day. This way, you can go over an array of menus, and ensure that your cuisine is all set for your guests to indulge in.

  • Officiant. Officiating the wedding is an important role! Your officiant should be booked about eight months in advance. This is especially important if you are choosing a religious officiant that may require a little extra knowledge and tasks before agreeing to marry you and your partner, such as taking part in pre-marital counseling.
